Get to Know Jorge Mújica

Jorge Mújica is running to be the democratic candidate for the 3rd Congressional District of Illinois.

Jorge Mujica decided to run for congress after being convinced by friends and fellow organizers that he is the right person to represent the 3rd congressional district of Illinois as a Democrat. He sees his candidature as part of a movement to have grassroots organizers and the immigrant community represented in the legislature.

“My candidacy is not an individual issue. I am proposing to the voters that they hire me to represent them in Washington, to represent the 75,000 immigrants and the interests of more than 150,000 whites, the elderly, and those who don’t have health insurance” (La Raza Newspaper).

He has been one of the lead organizers for the March 10th and May 1st immigrant rights marches in Chicago since 2006. He has also been an active participant in the social movements against the war, in support of comprehensive health care reform, and an advocate for human rights everywhere.

A former journalist and union organizer, Mujica has worked for La Raza Newspaper, Univision, and Telemundo, and has been involved labor rights and union organizing in both the US and Mexico
